Inter-Governmental Organizations

The implementation of the New Urban Agenda encourages the involvement and collaboration of multiple stakeholders, including national governments, local authorities, civil society, the private sector, and intergovernmental organizations.

In addition to the United Nations System, other intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) are relevant for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in several ways: They can provide a platform for dialogue and cooperation among their member states on sustainable urbanization issues. IGOs can support the implementation of the New Urban Agenda by providing technical assistance, capacity building, and funding to countries. Moreover, IGOs can complement the role of UN-Habitat in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the New Urban Agenda through their own programmes for their member states.
